PROPOLIS: Benefits, Sources and Side effects

Propolis is a resin-like substance gathered by bees from tree leaves and bark. Bees need propolis to make a natural “glue” which they use to coat the surface of their hives. Propolis contains 21 different flavonoids and antioxidants which help to neutralise free radicals. Free radicals are by-products of chemical reactions that take place in the body.

PROPOLIS benefits

They cause damage by interacting with cell membranes, proteins and cell DNA. As well as acting as a powerful antioxidant, propolis may help maintain a healthy immune system and resistance to infection by assisting with phagocytosis, the means by which white blood cells destroy bacteria.
